Reflection

This project has been a significantly altering and eye opening experience. It has allowed me to be significantly more appreciative to the sacrifices those have made for our country.  It has furthered my understanding of the United States military and allowed me to reflect on the history of soldiers that fell in battle. Researching and getting to know James Bird significantly altered my view on the military.  While yes, I was of course grateful for our military's sacrifices during the multiple wars that they fought, I never really took the time to research any soldiers personally and get to know the person they were before they fell in battle. Researching James, was a little difficult, but worth it. Getting to know him almost put me in the shoes that I did know him as a person, before he fell in battle. While the research for this project wasn't easy, I do believe it's something that Americans should take the time to do; to get to know those who have fallen for their peace and freedom. I enjoyed this project though it was challenging, specifically because I was able to honor one of the fallen who's family is still out there. The days worth of research were worth it. One of the fallen who isn't often commemorated or noticed. James earned his purple heart medal for a reason, like many soldiers. They gave their lives for a cause, to protect America as it is.
