Military Life

James Bird enlisted on September 7th, 1942, in Wilkes Barre, PA. At the time of his death, he was a sergeant. He began as a private and slowly climbed up in the ranks. His branch was Warrant officers and the jobs associated with his rank was often commanding groups of soldiers. The warrant officers branch commonly trained soldiers, organized and advised missions, and served as the Army's technical experts and trusted advisors. James only did more as a sergeant. During and before WWII, the unit basically did the same thing it always had. Organized and advised missions, trained soldiers, etc. General equipment he would typically have were knives and bayonets, artillery, small arms, typically depending on the day. He died July 17th, 1944. His interment took place in Normandy, France.
