James Bird's family; his sister Betty, his father David, his sister Esther and himself. 

Early Life

James Henry Bird was born September 19th, 1909 to Kate Elizabeth Horton and David Henry Bird. Kate was born December 20th, 1885 in Staffordshire, England. David was born November 15th, 1884, Staffordshire, England. James, though, was born in Ogmore Vale, Glamorgan, Wales. His sister, Esther Rachel Bird, was born January 12th, 1912 in England as well. In 1919, his family immigrated to the US, arriving in New York of New York State. His youngest sister was only born 2 years later, Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Bird, in 1921 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. James only completed Grammar School. He found himself doing physical labor rather than anything that would require a higher education. 

Marriage and Adulthood

James moved to Scranton, PA, in 1930. James married his wife, Margaret Petroskavitch, who became Margaret Bird on August 23rd, 1930. Their wedding formally took place August 27th, 1930, in Scranton, PA. He was about 21 during his wedding. His mother ended up passing away the third of April in 1936. He was about 30 when the war began and was about 33 when he was enlisted September 7th, 1942. Besides for having a wife, he also had a young daughter. Not much is known about her due to her still being alive as of now, but it's believed her name was Constance.
